Designing Your Life: How to Build A Well-Lived, Joyful Life
By Bill Burnett & Dave Evans

“This [is] the career book of the next decade and… the go-to book that is read as a rite of passage whenever someone is ready to create a life they love.” — David Kelley, Founder of IDEO.

No matter what the job, from the corporate world to local businesses, there are some aspects of one’s career that inspire and excite, and others that make one reconsider their path. Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans helps the reader to recognize which features of their jobs are fulfilling and inspiring, no matter how seemingly insignificant they are, and transform these positive qualities into a meaningful, exciting, and successful career path. I recommend this book to anyone at any stage in the career process, whether it be considering a career change, feeling burnt out, or taking the first steps into the realm of job searching. Designing Your Life both inspired me and reminded me that doing what I love is truly the key to a joyful life. Read this, and you may discover how to best pursue your life well-lived.

Personalysis

“The Personalysis Profile reveals the dynamic nature of personality and shines a light on your pattern of personality diversity. It reveals your distinctive individual pattern of strengths, needs, tendencies and gifts that make you ‘you.’ Using a combination of colors and dimensions, Personalysis provides a quick and easy way to see how you are uniquely wired to thrive.”

I recommend this test to anyone searching for that perfect career move. It’s incredibly detailed, and will reflect your personality down to the smallest trait. Once you understand your Personalysis results, it becomes clear which fields you would thrive in, versus fields that directly conflict with your personality. Someone that tests strongly for organization and analytics may not thrive in a creative and communicative profession, and thus would know to seek more analytical, data-driven positions, whereas someone who is energized by interaction would excel in a dynamic, imaginative environment. There is a career out there for every type of personality. The Personalysis Profile is an excellent investment into your future, and can guide you to that perfect field.

Equilibria

“How do we understand every individual when each is so different? We simplify this process of understanding self and others by developing the Personality Diversity Indicator (PDI), validated by more than half a million people.”

Albeit not as in-depth or specific, the Equilibria personality test is a free alternative to the Personalysis. Like the Personalysis, the Equilibria will analyze your personality and formulate results that express the “colors” towards which you lean. From the empathetic and supportive “blue” to the action-taking “red,” each of us has a unique combination of “colors” that can guide us in our pursuits of a suitable and fulfilling career.
